HISWG invites researchers and health professionals to submit abstracts for the 2nd Ethnic Health Research and Development Seminar 2026, held on 02–03 December 2026. HISWG has a long-standing commitment to promote research in ethnic areas and convene researchers to present studies from ethnic health organizations, academic institutions, INGOs, and health professionals from across Myanmar and its border regions. These events foster peer learning, knowledge sharing, and collaborative action to strengthen ethnic health systems and ensure equitable healthcare for underserved and conflict-affected communities.
We anticipate ~100 participants from EHOs, academic institutions, INGOs, partner and community-based health organizations.
🎯 Seminar Objectives
- To identify priority gaps and actionable solutions for key challenges in health program implementation and research in resource-limited and humanitarian crisis settings.
- To foster research evidence into priority actions that strengthen local research leadership, improve data and workforce capacity, and promote sustainable and equitable health.
- To strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange among EHOs and cross-border health partners in using evidence to develop coordinated, equitable, and context-appropriate health responses.
📚 Background
The Ethnic Health Research and Development Seminar is organized by HISWG as a platform to strengthen health systems and promote research collaboration among ethnic health organizations in Myanmar and along its borders, ensuring ethnic communities are not left behind amid humanitarian challenges and political instability. HISWG has consistently convened stakeholders to share knowledge, build partnerships, and advocate for equitable and accessible health services. The 2026 seminar continues this legacy with evidence-based discussions on the health needs of conflict-affected and marginalized populations.

Sub-theme
Spotlight on Human Resources for Health (HRH) and Humanitarian Health Priorities
Tracks in Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), Disease Surveillance and EPI, and Malaria — examining mortality and morbidity trends through previous studies and the EDHS, and exploring health priorities to strengthen border health status.
We welcome abstracts that speak to this theme and its tracks, translating research evidence into practical, actionable interventions for border and cross-border health systems.
